HUGE price drop on BMC Pocket: Now $495 for a limited time.

$495 at Adorama, discount bundles like Speedbooster

If you've been on the fence about buying a BMC pocket, this is the tipping point.

I tried the BMC pocket, liked it, but deemed it not for my particular needs. Even at its original price tag of $995 it was the least expensive camera to record RAW internally. Now at have the price it's quite the darn bargain.

What could this mean? Well, Could mean they're coming out with a replacement, or it could just mean that sales are down and they have a bucketload of them lying around. Either way, for someone wanting one it's hard to pass up. Some retailers are also doing bundled discounts for even more savings.

For those that aren't aware, BM has been doing a lot lately, namely coming out with puzzling new cameras, not coming out with timely fixes or communication, etc... So maybe this is them throwing a bone, like when they dropped the price of the 4k camera by $1000 after many months of delays.

If you want to read the press release from BM, enjoy: Blackmagic Press Release

And if you're really out of touch, here are some of the details of the BMC Pocket:

  • Between s16 & m43 sensor size
  • Active m43 mount
  • CinemaDNG RAW + ProRes
  • 1080 up to 30p
  • 13 Stops of Dynamic Range
  • ISO up to 1600
  • True 1080 sharpness
  • Strong Moire & Alaising
  • 3.5mm mic port
  • Headphone port
  • HDMI output
So again, there are ZERO other options that record RAW anywhere remotely near this price, so if you can deal with it's limitations, 500 bucks is really, really, darn good for what you get.
